Take a trip down memory lane to visit the iconic steel truss bridge along the Bukit Timah Rail Corridor before the area is closed for enhancement works starting next year 2018. The enhancement work was announced by the government agencies spearheading the project, the National Parks Board (NParks) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), on Saturday, 21 October 2017 (Details of the enhancement work can be found in Channel News Asia Article). Thanks to the introduction of the Downtown line, you can visit the rail corridor and Singapore Quarry (and even the Diary Farm area) in a single day trip. Singapore QuarryI remember when i was young, our textbooks will always emphasize that Singapore does not have any natural resources. But now I realize that is not entirely true as there are granite quarries scattered around our shore in the past (Unless granite not consider natural resources (・・?) There are 3 quarries in Bukit Timah Hill and I have decided to visit the Singapore Quarry as part of my half day itinerary to the rail corridor. ヽ(^。^)ノヽ(^。^)ノ The easiest way to get to the Singapore Quarry is by taking the Downtown line to Hillview Station (DT3). Use exit A when at the station. The most iconic building you will see when you exit the station is the Salvation Army. You will then walk down a sheltered pathway until you reach the Rail Mall. You may start your day by having breakfast here. At the end of the Rail Mall, you will reach the first landmark of the rail corridor; Steel Truss Bridge 1. To visit Singapore Quarry, head towards the playground from the steel bridge. Continue down the same direction until you reached a sign that points the direction to the Singapore Quarry along the road. Behold the view of the majestic Singapore Quarry which reopen in 2009 as a freshwater wetland park. Rail CorridorThere are a few ways to reach the Bukit Timah Railway Station along the rail corridor from the Singapore Quarry . 1. By Bike. The Urban Redevelopment Authority have made it such that the rail corridor is suitable for mountain biking. 2. By walking. You can enjoy the green corridor by trekking through it. 3. By public transport. For the less adventurous type (like me), you can choose to cover the distance by taking the public transport. The fastest and easiest is to take the Downtown line to King Albert Park Station (DT 6). You can also opt to take the following bus services : 67, 170 171 961. For those coming from King Albert Park Station, use exit A. You will see The Sterling condo upon exiting the station. From the exit, you should be able to see the steel truss bridge just a slight distance away. Have fun taking pictures with the iconic bridge. Just a short distance away is the Bukit Timah Railway Station. However public are not allowed to enter the station as it have been close for renovation. Authorities says that they plan to transform it into a heritage-gallery-cum-visitor centre.
