A trip to Bangkok is not complete if one did not pay a visit to any of its night market. However if you only limit shopping to when the sun goes down, then you are missing out from a lot of bargains. Pratunam Market is a unique wholesale market where you can find a lot of cheap bargains at wholesale prices throughout the day: Pratunam Morning Market - Daily from 5:00 to 9:00 Pratunam Day Market - Daily from 8:00 to 15:00 Pratunam Night Market - Daily from 19:00 to 23:00 I shall talk about Pratunam Day Market in this post. Pratunam Day Market can be generally divided into 2 key areas; shopping denoted by red path (Soi 21) and food denoted by blue path (Soi 19). I would recommend starting early from the red path and heading to blue path for lunch. As mentioned, you can start your shopping spree when you reached Soi 21. There are a few shopping malls lining the entrance of the street namely City Complex and Shibuya Shopping Mall. However I feel that you can skip all these malls as the goods are either suited for a older closet or similar goods can be found inside Soi 21 at better deals. Few things to note about Pratunam Day Market: - As it is a wholesale market, you can only receive discounts if you buy in bulk. Some vendors will not even entertain you if they know you only want to buy 1 item. - Again as it is a wholesale market, there are many vendors from other places coming here to restock in bulks. Hence there are many people pushing loaded carts and trolleys. These people are also typically in a rush so try not to block their path as some may shout at you. - The place is very very very crowded. Do take responsibility with your own belongings especially your wallet. - Some parts of the area gets very stuffy nearing noon. So drink lots and lots of water. In the event that you feel lost after zipping through the maze like aisles around Pratunam, you can always use Baiyoke Tower 2 to check your current position as it stands at the end of Soi 21 and is the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia. After hours of shopping, it is time for lunch. I suggest heading towards Soi 19 for lunch. This is where you will find the famous SabX2 Wanton Noodle stall. However my personal recommendation is another noodle stall denoted by the star in the map above. The food at this stall is cheap and simply delicious. Do I need other reason to recommend this stall? Walking along Soi 19, you can find some unique snacks. After satisfying your hunger, you can continue your shopping spree by crossing the street to Platinum Fashion Mall. The best thing about shopping at Platinum Fashion Mall is that... it has Air Con. Woohoo. You can really shop till you drop untill 20:00 (Closing time of the mall) as this mall has a total of 2 wings and up to 7 levels. Each level is dedicated to different products. Guys have better chance of finding something here at level 4 than anywhere else.
