Today is the first weekend since Singapore implemented Circuit Breaker in an effort to prevent local transmission of Covid 19 (7 April 2020 to 4 May 2020). During this period, we are supposed to stay at home as much as possible.
The problem is what if you really need to go out to buy groceries and/or to takeaway food, or you just want to go to the parks for some fresh air but you are afraid that the place is crowded? Luckily there are some live maps online that allows you to gauge the situation of the nearest mall or parks in your area so that you can make better decision before heading out.
SpaceOut
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has collaborated with retail mall operators to launch the website called SpaceOut that provides the public with regular updates on the crowd levels in malls across Singapore.
You can check the current crowd level in a mall as well as its recent trend to determine if it is a good time to visit.
General advice is to avoid going on weekends and typical meal times.
The site is also very considerate to represent the different levels of crowd using different icons so that the map will not be an issue for color blind users.
A recent update to the site allows user to monitor crowd level in supermarkets (I notice they only have NTUC FairPrice crowd data at the moment) and post offices across Singapore.
NParks Safe Distance
Although you can still jog at parks around Singapore, you will still need to practice safe distancing while doing so. To facilitate you in making plans for your jog, National Parks Board had launched a live map showing the amount of crowd or traffic in public parks around Singapore.
It is advisable to avoid crowded parks.
They too uses different icons to represent the different levels of crowd.
Another cool feature to note is that it will indicate parks that are closed to the public to avoid you making a wasted trip to the park. For example the Sembawang Hot Spring park is closed during this period.
You can see the safe distancing measures implemented at the Hot Spring Park when I visited before the Circuit Breaker kicks in.
In conclusion, stay at home as much as possible. If you really need to head out, plan ahead using these maps to avoid crowds.
